Wordle

Or a word cloud of my resume. It's interesting... it's Web. 2.0-ish... it's artsy... I'd almost like it to be some CSS/XMTML so I can link the words to different items, but it's pretty much a static Java application. I had to make a screen shot of it to upload to Flickr. It'd be neat if it was a Javascript application that after you manipulate the word cloud, the web-app would allow you to cut and paste the CSS + XHTML to your own web-site...

Kung-fu Panda

Erika and I went to see Kung-fu Panda last night at the AMC theaters in Downtown Disney, Orlando. When we arrived to pick up our pre-paid tickets, there was a huge giant inflatable Wall-E outside the doors. Many years ago, when the wife and I went to Disneyland, there was a similar inflatable crystal ball from Eddie Murphy's The Haunted Mansion movie... didn't take a picture of it, but it did light up at night -- very cool. Don't know if the Wall-E light up...

I would highly recommend Kung-fu Panda! Visually rich, good music, lovable characters, good plot. I didn't tear it apart too much; this one I just wanted to enjoy, without being super critical; and I did. I'd give it a 5 out of 5 stars... now I want to go out an rent more old school Kung-fu movies... takes me back to my childhood, with watching Kung-fu movies marathons on Sunday afternoons... the movie was good enough, I could see another sequel to it.
Posted By: Michael On: 2008-06-14 16:57:00 Category: Mousellanous Blog: Main Blog

Adam West, the 60's Batman TV show and the wacky situations Batman and Robin were left in -- you'd think there'd be a die hard AFOL out there trying to reproduce some most famous episodes... though a lot of them elude me as I blog this... :)

The new Batman & Harlequin set was at the LIC when I went on Saturday -- I'll have to pick it up later. Ended up picking up a new Agents set with two dark-green alligators. I'm building the Jungle Cruise for GFLTC's display at NMRA/ILTCO convention in Anaheim in July... Posted By: Michael On: 2008-06-09 09:28:00 Category: LEGO Blog: Main Blog

It was a good show... and it's got me thinking... and then I realized that I've been with the on-line LEGO fan community for 10 years now. My anniversary was Feb. 16th, 1998, the date of my first rec.toys.lego post.
Web-Site Updated

Just added some dropdown menus to the web-site, to spruce it up a little -- they look good. Borrowed the CSS from Stu Nicholls to make it happen. I've added more information than what's on the sidebar -- I might eventually get rid of most of the items on the sidebar in favor of the dropdowns. Anyway, been cleaning up the web-site in my spare time and having fun with it. I might actually get my on-line 'brand' organized for a change.
Posted By: Michael On: 2008-04-03 17:27:00 Category: Mousellanous Blog: Main Blog

Call for Participation: Disney-Themed LEGO Display

A little back story first: GFLUG/GFLTC decided last year that a few of us will try to make it to NMRA in Anaheim in 2008 -- the attraction of making side trips to Legoland & Disneyland is just too great to stay away.

Being a Disney-geek as well as a LEGO-geek, doing a little research on-line, there will be a NFFC (National Fantasy Fan Club) convention in Anaheim around the same time as the NMRA convention -- DisneylandâÂÂs 53th anniversary will be July 17th, 2008 btw. If you donâÂÂt know anything about the NFFC, itâÂÂs a national Disney fan club, please check their web-site out.

IâÂÂve been in contact with the NFFC convention planning committee, and have managed to secure a few display tables for a Disney-themed LEGO display for Sunday July 20th, 2008 during the public Disneyana Show and Sale event -- set up should be sometime Saturday or Sunday before the event.

So this is a call for participation; if anyone is interested in displaying Disney-themed MOCs and would be in the area during this time, please contact Joe Meno and myself. If you wonâÂÂt be in the area, but would still like to participate, let us both know, weâÂÂll try to make arrangements.

In the next few weeks, there will be some on-line brain storming of ideas for the display. Send me an e-mail and IâÂÂll invite you to the Yahoo planning group.
Posted By: Michael On: 2008-03-04 16:40:00 Category: LEGO Blog: Main Blog<br><hr size=1>Visit our sponser's BrickLink store: <a href="http://www.bricklink.com/store.asp?p=mhuffman">Central Florida Bricks</a>

podcast... James did a great job of editing. My only regret, we also talked about LEGO bringing back another theme, Wild West. There's some good and bad to reviving that theme -- Indians, Civil war or Union troops -- but there also so much more LEGO could do with that theme, like Zorro (or Spanish/Mexican influenced architecture), steam trains, & ghost towns. Maybe it might come up in another LAMLradio episode.
Posted By: Michael On: 2008-02-12 07:44:00 Category: LEGO Blog: Main Blog

LAMLradio: LEGO Talk Podcast

A few days ago, I was asked by James Wadsworth to participate in a episode of LAMLradio -- I had a blast. It was a little rough starting out, but after a few minutes, it was like doing BrickNebula all over again. :) I won't spoil the show -- you'll have to listen to it yourself -- but James, Andrew (news editor at BZPower) and myself talk about some fun topics... I just hope I don't embarrass myself too much.

The episode is not up yet, but it should be in the next few days, so look for it.

As a FYI, I updated the BrickNebula web-site today -- added some color to it (it was spammed to death over a year ago, so Dave turned it into a no frills web-site; I'm glad that he did) and added a flash MP3 player. After doing the episode of LAMLradio, I'm excited about doing another BrickNebula podcast sometime soon. Assuming Dave and I can find the time, we might try to put another one together soon -- there's been a lot happened since our last podcast.
Posted By: Michael On: 2008-02-11 19:10:00 Category: LEGO Blog: Main Blog
